Calling Your Inner Olympian

By Phil Tederous, September 26, 2008

If watching the Olympics this past summer didn’t get you fired up to start training, I don’t know what will. For many viewers, this was the first time any attention has been focused on something other than football, basketball and baseball.

For personal trainers like me, this was a wonderful opportunity to show people that there are more ways to stay fit other than dunking basketballs and sacking quarterbacks.

If the Olympics did anything in the way of fitness it was show the 38 different athletic competitions and the many body types it takes to complete the numerous sports.

One sport that attracted a lot of attention was swimming. In addition to the performance by Michael Phelps of the United States (he won eight gold medals in China) 42 year old Dara Torres also competed at the highest level in her sport. The focus on swimming has caused a lot of people to buy a pair of goggles for themselves and give the pool a try.

On the one hand, this is great news. Swimming, as much as any other sport can provide a wonderful workout. On the other hand, there will be a lot of injuries suffered because people weren’t ready for the heavy physical exertion.

At Advantage PTS, we can provide a detailed evaluation about what you might need to start a strenuous workout program and even highlight where your weaknesses might be to allow you to get the most out of your workouts.

The same strategy goes for running and weightlifting. Both, tremendous forms of exercise. With a little help from Advantage PTS we’ll have you in “near” Olympic form in no time. Besides the next summer games are just four years away!
