Finding The Time

By Phil Tederous, September 26, 2008

Summer is over, it’s getting darker earlier and it seems there are fewer hours in the day to workout. So, now what? You still have 2, 5, 10, 20, etc…pounds to lose and you didn’t reach your goal this summer. You are not alone. So many people register this complaint in the Las Vegas Valley you’d think we live in the North Pole with a couple hours of light each day.

There are a few things you can do to keep your exercise schedule going. At Advantage PTS, we can reschedule your workout so it fits your lifestyle, moonlight and all. Don’t let the lack of sunlight fool you. There are still 24 hours in a day. Here’s how we suggest you use them.

Find your best window of time, be it morning, afternoon, or evening to get some cardio work in. If the weather is cold or you’re not comfortable being outside once its dark, find a mall or major retail outlet that’s well lit. This type of location will allow you to walk in a safe setting. Even if you aren’t there to purchase an item, take four laps around a mall or department store and you’ve logged more exercise than you might have at a gym.
Another place, which no one would ever dream of getting exercise, is a library. I know it’s where people go to sit and read. Nothing wrong with that. It’s why we have them in our community. But you know what else a library has? Stairs. Spend as little as 20 minutes at a time climbing up and down the stairs and you’ll receive a very intense cardiovascular workout.
The only time you shouldn’t try to fit a workout into your daily routine is right before bedtime. The reason is exercise accelerates your heartbeat. To sleep, your heart rate needs to be at rest. Being out of breath and waiting for your heart rate to recover will make falling asleep a difficult task.
So, don’t let the sunlight fool you. There’s still plenty of exercise to do. At Advantage PTS, we can help find the right exercise for you at the right time of day to give you the best results.
